Stay In and Go All Out: An Affordable Date Night at Home!

My husband and I enjoy having "date nights" with just the two of us. And being the Frugal & Fabulous couple that we are - we like to enjoy our champagne tastes on our beer budget. So as much as we like to go out- most weekends we love to just rent movies and cook "fancy" dinners at home. So needless to say when MyBlogSpark offered to send us a Wanchai Ferry Macaroni Grill Dinner kit to enjoy at home - we were thrilled! The kit included a box of Wanchai Ferry's Orange Chicken & Rice and a box of Macaroni Grill's Creamy Basil Pasta.

We made these meals over a weekend and let me just say - you'd never know these meals came from a box! Though I would never consider myself a food snob, I will tell you that, until now, I've never been a fan of any meal that requires browning meat and then adding a box of ingredients. But my friends, this is not your typical boxed dinner!

The Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken meal was flavorful and tasted exactly like takeout! And there was plenty of it! All you need is about a pound of chicken and a little bit of oil to cook the chicken in. Everything else (rice, sauce, spices, cornstarch etc) was in the box! This meal was quick and easy to make and is now a family favorite! It's a great alternative to ordering out (and a frugal alternative too!) :)

The Romano's Macaroni Grill Creamy Basil Parmesan Chicken & Pasta was also delicious and easy to make. It also only required chicken, and a little bit of butter and milk. Everything else was in the box! It is a great meal to make on a weeknight when you want a satisfying pasta that doesn't take all night to make. I thought it was really tasty. My husband picked out the sun-dried tomatoes, but enjoyed it nonetheless! :)

Verdict: Romano's Macaroni Grill and Wanchai Ferry Meals are great meal makers for under a few bucks! And what's the best part of these meals? You can make them in one skillet (each), which means less cleanup (YES!)

I prefer to have date nights at home. But I also enjoy going outdoors while the good weather holds up.

I like date nights at home, frugal and equally fun. I've tried Wanchai Ferry garlic chicken kit, it was pretty good.
