Stockpile Ideas: A Frugal & Fabulous Baby Gift!

My best friend is having her baby today!!!! So in honor of that, I wanted to share with you one of the gifts I made for her shower a few weeks ago... a diaper cake!

Want to make your own?
For a large cake you'll need:
  • Two regular packages of diapers - around 84 total (brand doesn't really matter but they may look different if they are different.)
  • A bag of assorted rubber bands (small ones for individual diapers and 3 large ones for cake layers)
  • A platter or round piece of cardboard
  • Ribbon or decorations
  • Small items to put inside the cake (baby shampoo, pacifiers etc)
This was my first attempt at a diaper cake - and it was actually pretty easy! You basically roll the diapers (starting from the closed end and working your way down) and secure them with a rubberband. For the first (top) layer I used 8 diapers, then 23 for the second, and around 53 for the bottom layer. After you finish each layer put a large rubber band around all of the diapers. (It works well to have another person hold the diapers together while you wrap the bunch) To hide the rubber bands we hot glued the ends of a piece of ribbon and looped it over the top.

Have you made a diaper cake before? Have another great baby gift idea? Let me know!
