Giveaway & Review: Soda Stream Soda Maker! (CLOSED)

We all know the best way to save money on anything is to make it yourself. And usually it's more fun doing it yourself because you can customize it: everyone loves making their own pizza or sundae, right?! What if I told you that you could make your own soda!

DH and I were very excited when Soda Stream sent us a Fountain Jet Home Soda Maker and an assortment of flavors to try out! And since we'll make up any excuse to throw a party, we assembled a team of soda connoisseurs to help us test it out! Soda Stream Soda Makers can make up to 110 liters of soda water with one co2 carbonator! And each bottle of flavoring makes up to 12 liters ( the equivalent of 35 cans) worth of soda! And it doesn't make just soda - you can also make flavored sparkling water and an energy drink comparable to a certain popular name brand!

The set up for the machine is very easy. The co2 cartridge fits into the machine and you attach a bottle of chilled tap water to the machine. You then hit a button on the top of the machine a few times until you hear a buzz - this carbonates the water, and allows you to control the amount of carbonation you want in your soda. As soon as you reach the desired bubbliness, you pull the bottle out of the machine and add flavoring. You give the bottle a quick shake and you're done! In a total of about 3 minutes you have a 1 liter bottle of fresh soda, perfected to your taste! And the machine itself needs no battery or power source!

We were very impressed with the Fountain Jet machine and the quality of the soda! We definitely had some issues getting the right amount of carbonation- but through trial and error we ended up with some delicious & perfectly fizzy soda! Our only complaint was that the directions were a little vague. When we first were trying to carbonate the water, we had issues getting the machine to 'buzz' - but after a few tries it worked fine! The machine recommended 3 buzzes of carbonation, but we found that 5 was perfect for us.

The flavors themselves were right on and tasted just like (or better than) their brand name counterparts! On test day we tried Orange, Cola, Root beer and Lemon-Lime. The Lemon-Lime is very light, more like a club soda. But we found that after it sat a little bit, the flavors came out a little more and it was perfect! Out of all four of the flavors we taste tested, the Orange was definitely the best. It had a wonderful sweetness that both the kids and adults loved! Soda Stream makes over 25 regular, diet, energy and caffeine-free flavors!
