The urge to...purge. Well, organize. Spring clean. Reassess if you will. After going through some of our stockpile this weekend, we started to evaluate. Will DH really drink those protein shakes? Can I really eat 63 soy jars this year? Just how many times a year do I really frost a cake?(apparently not enough as I have 3 cans that are expiring/expired!) So we once again busted out the bags and boxes and have started our care packages....I baked some cupcakes... and I am subjecting my co-workers to copious amounts of the joyful soy. :)
I've also started a pile of clothes to donate and every day this week I've tried to go through a drawer or closet and decide what I actually wear/need. Does one really need 14 'gym' or 'PJ' shirts? Pictures coming soon... haha!
My question to you: How do you evaluate your stash and/or belongings and decide what you will/won't keep?
p.s.: I know the shopping has been light this week - I'm hoping to get out there tonight and start in on that $150 March budget!!! :)

5 gave me some sugar:
about once a month i stare at the basement stash......anything i've forgotten i had, or i have not used in a month or more, or that is expiring before i could feasibly use it up gets donated. that way i don't end up with tons of expired food twice a year (which would make me feel awful, letting that much go to waste).
p.s. i feel your pain with the soy joy bars. i swear they multiply on their own!!
I love the idea of cleaning one thing out a night. I still have a bag of clothes from the fall that hasn't made it to a donation site! I think that I'm in the "hoarder" phase right now...where things are starting to overflow a bit, but I'm not really willing to part with all my deals & steals! I need to snap out of it! Thanks for the encouragement! :o)
OMG Ryan loves protein shakes!! Are they the EAS ones? He was so happy when I got those for free... We should do an exchange!!
I don't really have a method for deciding what to get rid of when it comes to my stockpile. But for clothes, if I haven't worn it in the last year, it goes. And if I still can't convince myself....I force myself to wear said item the next time I go out. If I actually end up wearing it, then I hang on to it. If I rip it off 3 minutes later and pick something else, then it goes.
I try to keep track of my stash so I won't end up with things that expire. However, a free can of frosting is just too good to pass by. So, I donate lots to food banks and give away to friends who are in need. I don't have a large area to store food so maybe that is to my advantage.
I go through my stuff to donate quarterly. It seems for some reason that my husband and boys accumulate an enormous amount of t-shirts. We rarely have to worry about food though:)
